Pirates Shoot Down Barons

Pirates (25-9) defeat the Maryland Black Barons on Saturday, July 18 with a final score of 4 to 1. The weather was surprisingly perfect for a baseball game in the middle of July and our Pirates took advantage as they turned their three hits into four runs. Chris Yates handled the Barons from the mound for seven innings with 8 strikeouts while allowing just three hits. Torey Mancari and Adam Young finished the evening with one inning each.
Zach Costello batted a single in the third inning sending John Ralston across home plate for the first Pirate run. The fourth inning was a biggie for the Pirate offense as the Maryland crew provided plenty of opportunities for the Pirates to move around the bases. After an error and two walks loaded the bases, Reed Bromley walked, sending George Piccirilli across home plate. Barons walked Mike McMenamin allowing Matt Snyder to score. A few pitches later a wild one sent Pirates advancing through the bases and Mike Snyder scored the third and final run for the inning, all without the benefit of a base hit. Maryland did score 1 run early in the seventh inning but that was the end of that. Carney Pirates with solid relief pitching, secured another victory, 4 to 1.
