Double Win in Double-header

The Carney Pirates (15-5) entered the July Fourth weekend celebrating two one-run victories against the DC Grays (7-11) on July 2. The contests ended with scores of 7 to 6 and 3 to 2. In Game 1, Pirate pitcher Pat Somers (ECU) and Brad Wimmer (Frederick JUCO) held the Grays to 11 hits, 6 runs, and 7 Strikeouts.
Pirate bats were back in double digits, with 11 hits. Brett Bowers (ECU) went 2-4, with a HR, RBI, and 2 Runs. Doubles were produced by Matthew Murakami (Maryland), went 2-4, 2 RBI’s, 1 Run and Zach Costello (Radford). Singles were produced by Matt Snyder (Ole’ Miss) went 2-4, 2 Runs, RBI, Michael McMenamin (Virginia Tech), went 2-3, RBI, Jake Huxtable (Central Florida), RBI, and Chad Morgan (Virginia Tech)
In Game 2, Pirate pitchers held the Grays to 3 hits. Matt Crouse (Ole’ Miss) pitched 5 shut-out innings, allowing 2 hits, with 6 Strikeouts. Torey Mancari (Mary Washington) and Adam Young (Lafayette) stepped in as middle relief, allowing 2 runs off 1 hit. Mike Manfro (Greensboro College) came in as the closer and shut down the Gray line up, securing the Pirate win.
The Pirate bats produced 5 hits. Reed Bromley (Tennessee Wesleyan) went 2-3, Dbl, RBI and a Run, Alex Guerra (Radford) Dbl. Single by Brett Bowers (ECU) and John Ralston (Rider), RBI.
