Yates’ No-Hitter and Lamas’ Grand Slam

Carney Pirates completed their June 27 double-header with two victories and two big treats. Chris Yates threw a no-hitter while Rob Lamas smacked a grand slam on a perfect day of CGL baseball.
The Carney Pirates (11-4) took both games Saturday in the DH with the MCBL-MD Nationals, with a 4-3 win and 12-1. Both games provided a lot of action, but the special “treats” occurred in Game 2. Carney Pirate Chris Yates (William and Mary) pitched 7 complete innings allowing only 1 unearned run and 5 strikeouts – thus his 1st Collegiate No-Hitter! In the same game, Carney Pirate Designated Hitter Rob Lamas (Radford) hit a Grand Slam HR, with 4 RBI’s.
In Game 1 Pirate pitchers held the Nationals to 3 hits. Matt Crouse (Ole’ Miss) pitched 6 shut-out innings, giving up 1 hit, and 6 strikeouts. Closer, Mike Manfro (Greensboro College) came in the 7th inning allowing 2 hits and 3 runs (1 earned).
MCBL-MD Nationals pitcher Brian Deering (Niagara) held the Pirates to 4 hits with 4 runs in Game 1. Singles by Chad Morgan (Virginia Tech), 2 RBI’s, Zach Costello (Radford), RBI, Alex Guerra (Radford), and Jake Huxtable (Central Florida)
In Game 2, Pirate bats produced 11 hits. In addition to his Grand Slam, Lamas went 2-3, Matthew Murakami (Maryland) went 2-3, Dbl, 3 runs, along with singles by Jake Huxtable (Central Florida) (2),Mike Snyder (Ole’ Miss) 2 RBI’s, Chad Morgan (Virginia Tech) 2 RBI’s, Zach Costello (Radford) 2 RBI’s, George Piccirilli (VMI) RBI, and Alex Guerra (Radford)
The Pirates play June 29 at Nellis Stadium at 7:00 pm against the current CGL leader, the Vienna Senators.
