Pirates Finish Fairfax 4 to 3

The Carney Pirates (6-1) came away with a win in a very close game with the Fairfax Nationals (2-4). Carney Pirate pitchers Matt Crouse (Ole’ Miss) pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing only 6 hits, 3 runs, and striking out 3. Brad Wimmer (Frederick-JUCO) stepped in as middle relief for the next 2 innings, striking out 2. Closer Mike Manfro (Greensboro College) completed the game, maintaining the 4-3 win for the Pirates. In the 3rd inning the Carney Pirates made a great defensive play, Left Fielder George Piccirilli (VMI) was able to stop a potential HR (or at least a double) by catching a nice fly ball by the Nationals on the hill at Nellis Stadium.
The Carney Pirates had 7 hits. Matthew Murakami (Maryland) went 2-4, with a RBI, Chad Morgan (Virginia Tech) went 2-4, and singles by George Piccirilli (VMI), with a RBI, Mike Snyder (Ole’ Miss), with a RBI, and Tim McCormick (St John’s).
