Pirates Rained Out – Finish ODL Season Undefeated

The Carney Pirates final game of the Old Dominion League season was canceled due to poor field conditions caused by the prior day rains. The Pirates finished with a perfect record beating teams that had cumulatively won over 60% of their games and virtually every time saved their ace for throwing against the Pirates. The Pirates, also with the exception of their last victory a 10-1 beating of one of the league’s other top tier teams, always swung wood bats against their opponents aluminum, a significant batting average disadvantage. If memory serves me correctly (and I could be wrong) the Carney Pirates are the first ODL team to have a perfect season since General R.E. Lee’s great grandson, Sockitoo lead the 1925 Del Ray Confederates to an undefeated season. Congratulations Pirates. Tonight at 5:00pm back to wood against the twenty year olds. Get there early and grab a great seat, the snack bar is open and serving up the health food that made them famous among cardiologists. See you there.
