Beat Excellent Opponent 10-1

Pirates Swing Aluminum with Authority

aluminum batsThe two teams with the best records in the Old Dominion League squared off Thursday night in a rematch of the Carney Pirates extra inning 1-0 victory. This time the Pirates swung aluminum bats (as they prepare for their fall college season) and the outcome was more one-sided. Evan Scott gave up a run in the first on a bang bang double play that could have been called either way and then threw a shutout inning in the second showing why the highly regarded right hander was drafted by the LA-Anaheim Angels. Kyle Harsanyi got the job done by throwing two scoreless innings and Chris Yates finished off the game with an impressively thrown three innings of trouble-free shutout ball.

Reed BromleyThe Pirates bats were being swung with crispness and power worthy of their All Met status. Reed Bromley started the scoring with a three run blast over dead centerfield that was gone the moment it left the bat and followed up with a single in another fine at bat. Matt SnyderMatt Snyder smashed a two run double scoring George Piccirilli and Ryan Thomas, both who had singled. Ian MacGeorge, who singled earlier, delivered a bases loaded double, clearing the bases with impressive running first to home by Mike Snyder. Whereas the baserunners started showing their Pork Brains with Milk Gravy next base mentality running style, the next lesson will be to teach batters to take a pitch (with less than two strikes) when the runner has a superb jump and an obvious stolen base. Tim McCormick made an excellent catch against the fence in foul territory. Mike McMenamin, who singled in his only at bat, positioned at third and Mike Snyder in rightfield, both played errorfree defense in their unfamilar positions.

Saturday the Pirates face another first place team, the Maryland Orioles West who lead the Maryland Collegiate Baseball League. The doubleheader starts at 5:00pm, get there early, beat the crowd and catch some of The Voice’s pregame soothing tunes. Doctor Al, bring your money and a healthy appetite, the snack bar will be open!
