Bowers, Snyder Power Pirates to 5-2 Victory
Published: July 9th, 2008 8:13AM
The Pirates continued their winning ways with a return home victory powered by the run producing hitting of Brett Bowers and Matt Snyder. Bowers tripled in the second and was driven home by a hard shot to short by Reed Bromley, who also singled later in the game. George Piccirilli had an RBI double as well. In the fourth with the score tied at two, Foster Dunigan singled, Piccirilli walked and Matt Snyder drove them both in with a clutch two out hit. In the fifth, Mike Snyder walked and Bowers crushed his second triple of the night bringing a racing Snyder all the way home from first, ending the scoring at 5-2.
Pat Somers started for the Pirates and went three innings and although he gave up two runs, was not necessarily hit hard. The Pirates maintained their uncanny knack of allowing a run in the first without having the ball leave the infield as the runner scored on a finely turned double play. In the third, a bad skip single, wild pitches, and a groundout scored the only other run allowed. Bart Reese came in and threw two scoreless innings and just when the hitters might have started getting used to Reese’s sidearm delivery, Matt Crouse came in and shut them down the last two innings with his signature fastball and pinpoint location. The Pirates play Thursday night at 7:30pm at Westfield High. Also, please note a schedule change for next Tuesday’s July 15th game at PVI vs. the Fairfax Nationals. The teams have decided to move the game up to 5:00pm to allow players and spectators alike to get home and watch the Major League Baseball All Star Game.
